If you have fixed braces, you can still enjoy your favourite activities – including contact sports. All you need to do is protect your smile and appliance with a custom sports mouthguard.
What is a mouthguard?
A mouthguard is an appliance that slots over your upper and lower teeth to cushion and protect them against trauma. If you don’t wear a mouthguard, you can injure your mouth or brackets if you suffer oral trauma during your sport.
The importance of a custom mouthguard during treatment
A sports mouthguard is always a good idea when playing contact sports, but when you have braces it’s important that you get a custom mouthguard made. That’s because the average mouthguard doesn’t adjust for the shape of your orthodontic appliance.
In order for your mouthguard to protect you and your braces properly, we need to custom-make a sports mouthguard that is designed to fit around your braces.
How does getting a mouthguard work?
The team at Yorkshire Orthodontics can create your bespoke mouthguard using our cutting-edge 3D scanner. That means we won’t need to use any uncomfortable or messy bite moulds when making your appliance.
We will simply use a small handheld wand to take images of your teeth and jaws, and construct a custom mouthguard based on a digitally rendered model of your smile.
